RESPONSIBILITY IS WOVEN INTO EVERY ANNALA FABRIC
For us, responsibility is not defined by a single material, certificate or label. It is about the choices we make throughout the process, from design and material selection to weaving and the lifespan of the finished fabric.
Woven in Finland
Annala fabrics are woven at our own mill in Lapua, Finland. This means that not only the design but the fabric itself is made in Finland. Having our own production allows us to influence how each fabric is constructed, which materials are used and how much is produced.
The right material for the right purpose
We do not believe that natural fibres are automatically responsible or that synthetic fibres are automatically a less responsible choice. What matters is choosing the right material for its intended use.
A throw for the home, a hotel sofa and furniture in a heavily used public space require very different qualities. If a fabric wears out quickly and needs to be replaced frequently, a material that sounds like a good choice may not be the most responsible option overall.
Designed to last
A long lifespan is one of the most important principles behind our approach to responsibility. A fabric should stand the test of time both technically and visually.
Wherever possible, we create the required properties through material selection, yarns, fabric construction and weaving. We do not treat our fabrics with unnecessary finishing agents. After weaving, the fabrics are simply steamed using clean water.
We produce according to need
Having our own weaving mill enables us to produce small batches, create customised solutions and manufacture according to actual demand. There is no need to produce everything in large quantities for stock.
Our production uses solar energy and renewable electricity.
The best waste is waste that never occurs
We continuously develop ways to reduce material waste and make use of surplus and discontinued materials as well as production by-products. Our aim is not only to recycle waste after it has been created, but to find ways to prevent it from being generated in the first place.
Reupholstery extends the life of furniture
Good furniture is made to last. Reupholstering a piece of furniture can extend its lifespan instead of replacing the entire piece with something new.
Responsibility is a continuous process
More than a century of Finnish textile production has taught us to take a long-term view of responsibility. We do not consider our work complete. We continue to develop our materials, production and ways of working.
For us, responsibility ultimately comes down to this: the right material for the right purpose, for as long as possible.
