Eeva Mela, Designer
My motto is “beautiful and commercial.”
I approach creative work with passion, dedication, and strong professional expertise. I am a prolific and versatile designer with years of experience. My work is primarily focused on print and graphic design, but I also work fluently across fashion, textile, and product design. I am familiar with a wide range of materials and elements, including textiles, glass, wood, and precious metals.
Nature and its vegetation—especially the structures and forms of trees and plants—are a constant source of inspiration. Geometry, color, art, and storytelling also play a central role in my design process.
I am a passionate walker and spend a great deal of time outdoors, moving through seaside landscapes, forests, and urban environments. While walking, I observe and scan my surroundings, capturing visually interesting moments with my phone camera. Many of my patterns are built from photographs I have taken of nature and the environment. Nature is an endless resource—it provides strength, clarity, and calm.
Another key source of inspiration is geometry: squares, triangles, circles, ovals, rectangles, and lines—the chameleon-like movement and transformation of forms. Basic shapes are the foundation of design. And then there is color; pattern is a collaboration between form and color, capable of creating endless worlds and atmospheres.
Color matters—and sometimes, there is color..
